Plant Magic is also a "Church"
We know the word "church" carries a lot of weight.
For many people it brings up memories of rigid doctrine, exclusion, or institutions that felt anything but spiritual. We don't take that lightly — and we want to be transparent about why we use it anyway.
It Offers Us Real Legal Protection
Under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) of 1993 and the First Amendment, recognized religious communities have the right to practice their faith free from undue government interference — including the sacramental use of plant medicines. The word "church" is part of how we hold that protection, and we hold it with full responsibility and sincerity.
This is a legal framework that exists specifically to protect communities like ours — communities built around sincere spiritual belief, sacred practice, and a reverence for plant medicines as teachers and sacraments.
But It's Also More Than Legal
We also mean it spiritually. Plant Magic Church is a living community united by shared belief, ceremony, and the conviction that we are each other's medicine. When we say church, we mean it in the same breath as temple, sanctuary, and sacred gathering space.
We are not a doctrine-led institution. We don't ask you to subscribe to a doctrine or leave your questions at the door. We ask only that you come with intention, openness, and respect for the medicines and the people you'll share space with.
What We Actually Are
Plant Magic is a Spiritual Community. Our Ceremonies are rooted in Amazonian ancestral traditions and held with experienced guides in intentional containers. Our Sacraments are Plant medicines — Teachers that have been used for thousands of years long before any Western legal framework existed to protect them.
We use the word church because it protects our right to practice. We live into it because it reflects something true about who we are and how we gather.
If you've ever felt like organized religion wasn't for you but still felt called to something sacred — you might feel right at home here.
